Roger Baker joined Derbyshire Constabulary on 25 July 1977. He has worked in various uniform CID and Command roles. In 2001 he was appointed as Assistant Chief Constable (Territorial Policing) and Assistant Chief Constable(Crime and Operations), of Staffordshire Police. In 2003 he was appointed as Deputy Chief Constable, North Yorkshire Police and in 2005 he became Chief Constable of Essex Police
He is a member of the Chief Constables Council as well as a member of the Association of Chief Police Officers Eastern region Conference. He is the Association.s lead on Identity Card issues. he is the chair of Identity Fraud Prosecution Steering Group and the Policing Bureaucracy Gateway. He also chairs the NSPIS HR National User Group.
His academic achievements are a Master of Business Administration, Master of Arts (Organisational Management) and a Diploma in Applied Criminology and Police Studies.
He is married to Trish, with two daughters – Katie and Sophie.
