Ian Arundale Chief Constable Dyfed & Powys Police

Mr Ian Arundale became Chief Constable of Dyfed & Powys Police on 2nd June, 2008

Ian joined South Wales Police in 1980, and served in a variety of roles before becoming Area Commander for the western section of the force. He joined West Mercia Constabulary as an Assistant Chief Constable in November 2000 and was appointed as Deputy Chief Constable West Mercia Constabulary in October 2005.

The holder of a MSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice from Cardiff University, Ian also has a BA in Police Studies from Glamorgan University and a Post Graduate Diploma in Applied Criminology from Cambridge University.

He has travelled extensively throughout North America and in 1995, was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship in Police Studies to study strategic policing issues within the USA. He is a graduate of the United Kingdom ‘Special Course’, the Operational Commanders Programme and the Strategic Command Course at the Police Staff College, Bramshill.

Ian is Chairman of the Association of Chief Police Officers’ Firearms Working Group and is responsible for producing policy and guidance, governing the police use of firearms throughout the United Kingdom.
