Andrew Edwards Deputy Chief Constable Dyfed & Powys Police

Andrew Edwards has been a police officer for twenty-nine years and is the Deputy Chief Constable of the Dyfed-Powys Police service.

A native of Swansea, he graduated from Aberystwyth University in 1977 with an Honours Degree in Geography and worked as a Land Surveyor in the Middle East before joining the South Wales Constabulary in 1979.

He transferred to Dyfed-Powys in 1991 where he has served in a variety of operational and corporate roles and regularly speaks on national courses in respect of the management of firearms sieges and other critical incidents.

In December, 2004 he was promoted to the rank of Assistant Chief Constable with responsibility for all operational matters and organisational performance. In that time the force has achieved its sixth Charter Mark, Investors in People status, the Leadership and Management award for IIP and the Remploy Wales Employer of the Year award. Following his nomination by the force, he reached the final three in the ‘Leading Wales’ Awards this year.

He holds a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Criminology from Cambridge University and is about to begin a second post graduate course in Executive Coaching and Mentoring. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy at Quantico, Virginia, and in 1997 was the visiting lecturer at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York.

In November, 2007 he acted up as Chief Constable for a 6 month period and during that time, he was appointed Deputy Chief Constable on the 11th December, 2007. His current support portfolio has responsibility for Corporate Services, HR & Diversity, Development Services and Professional Standards.
