Dave Whatton Acting Chief Constable Greater Manchester Police

Dave Whatton took up the role of Deputy Chief Constable in April 2006 and was appointed Acting Chief Constable in March 2008.

He joined GMP from the West Midlands Police on promotion to Assistant Chief Constable in December 2002. In April 2003, he became ACC with responsibility for Criminal Investigation Division, Special Branch, and Scientific Services.

Dave joined West Midlands Police in 1983. In 1996 he graduated with a Master of Science Degree in Public Sector Management and in 2002 was awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in Criminology.

As a uniformed officer and detective he worked in Birmingham, Sandwell and Wolverhampton before a secondment to the Regional Crime Squad and National Crime Squad.

In 1998 he was promoted to superintendent and worked as operations superintendent in Willenhall and then as chief superintendent as divisional commander in Sutton Coldfield.

Dave is a director of ACPO and a member of ACPO Cabinet, ACPO (TAM) Aviation and Transport and CPOSA Panel of Friends.
