Deputy Chief Constable Ian Readhead joined the Hampshire Constabulary at the age of 16 as a cadet.
He attended the Special Course in 1975 and went to read Law at Southampton University. His successive ranks in the Police Service have a strong operational background both in the Uniform and Traffic Department.
Mr Readhead attended the first European Senior Officers' Course in Nordvik, Holland, in 1992 and the 30th Senior Command Course at Bramshill in 1993. He has also worked in Slovakia regarding the policing of Romanies.
He was appointed assistant chief constable in April 1995, with responsibility for Administration and Support Departments, becoming assistant chief constable (Territorial) on April 1, 1998. He was appointed deputy chief constable on April 1, 2000.
He was awarded a Queen's Police Medal in the Queen's Birthday Honours List in 2006.
