Frank Armstrong Assistant Commissioner City of London Police
Frank was educated at Adams Grammar School (Haberdashers) and then graduated with a Law Degree from Sheffield University in 1982. In September 1982 he joined the Metropolitan Police service under the Accelerated Promotion Scheme for Graduates. For 9 years his service was in uniform operations in Central & South West London until he became Staff Officer in the rank of Inspector to the Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Personnel at Scotland Yard. After 2 years here he was selected under the Metropolitan Police Scholarship Scheme to attend Cambridge University graduating in June 1994 with a Masters Degree in Criminology. Promoted to Chief Inspector Operations at Wandsworth where a notable achievement was his leadership in closing the largest nightclub in Britain because of the drugs problem.

In May 1996 he was selected to join the Metropolitan Police Special Branch Protection Squad in the rank of Detective Superintendent. Whilst in Special Branch he was Prime Minister Tony Blair’s Personal Protection Officer for over 2 years leading all aspects of his security in the UK and Worldwide.

In April 2000 he attended the Strategic Command Course and in December 2000 was selected by the City of London Police to the rank of Commander. Here he was the Chief Officer running Operations from September 2003 including the City's response to the terror threat post 9/11. From September 2003 he was the Chief Officer for Support Services but on 7th July 2005 he led the response to the terrorist attack in the City. On 24th June 2006 Mr Armstrong became Temporary Assistant Commissioner, responsible for the operational running of the Force.

His outside interests are predominantly sporting. He has run 4 London marathons (most recent 2002). He is Vice Chairman of the British Police Rugby Section and treasurer of the charity Child Victims of Crime.
