David Griffin Deputy Chief Constable Humberside Police

A native of Richmond, North Yorkshire Mr David Griffin joined Humberside Police in 1985 and spent the early years of his police career in a mixture of CID and uniform posts, working in and around the Hull area. He was selected for the accelerated promotion course in 1989 and spent three years as a sergeant and inspector in Hull. Promotion to Chief Inspector followed in 1992 and he moved to work as the Chief Constable’s Staff Officer at Headquarters. After a brief spell as Sector Commander in North Hull, he was promoted with just eight and a half years’ service to Superintendent and appointed as Divisional Commander for Scunthorpe with responsibility for the Unitary Authority area of North Lincolnshire.
Following a secondment to the FBI Academy (Quantico, Virginia), Mr Griffin returned to Scunthorpe. He spent four years as Divisional Commander before moving to head up the Corporate Services Branch with responsibility for planning, marketing and criminal justice.
In March 2001 he took up the post of Assistant Chief Constable in Cheshire, assuming responsibility for territorial policing, initially, before moving on to lead the Specialist Crime and Operational Support functions in 2003.
David Griffin joined Humberside Police in 19 September 2005 as the Deputy Chief Constable. He holds the portfolios for professional standards, corporate development, personnel and training.
