Christine Twigg Deputy Chief Constable Cumbria Constabulary
Christine Twigg was born in Middlesbrough and lived all of her life in the Cleveland area until moving to Cumbria in January 1998. She was educated in Cleveland at Cleveland Grammar School for Girls and at Newcastle University, where she obtained a first class Honours degree in Social Policy.

After leaving school she became a medical laboratory scientific officer, working for the South Cleveland Health Authority. At the age of 23 she decided on a complete career change, and in May 1979 joined Cleveland Constabulary. She attended the 21st Special Course in 1983. Her police career has been varied, but based largely on uniformed operational policing in the South Cleveland area, particularly in Middlesbrough where she served in nearly all the ranks up to and including Chief Superintendent. She also spent some time in the Research and Development Department, as Staff Officer to the Chief Constable and for 18 months was seconded to the Home Office as Staff Officer to Her Majesty's Inspector of Constabulary.

Christine Twigg was appointed as Assistant Chief Constable in January 1998 and on the 1st April 2001 became Deputy Chief Constable. She is responsible for Strategic Development, Executive Support, Personnel and Development, Marketing and Communications, Legal Services and the Professional Standards Department.
