Dave started his policing career with Greater Manchester Police in 1986, initially working in Salford, Manchester. He held a variety of uniform and CID roles including Detective Superintendent, which involved leading on homicide investigations, diversity and intelligence management projects.
In 2002, he was promoted to Chief Superintendent, Head of Crime Support and in January 2004 was responsible for merging Crime Support and Crime Investigation branches to create Headquarters CID, becoming Head of CID with responsibility for the investigation of the most complex and serious of offences.
From February 2006 until April 2007 he was Temporary Assistant Chief Constable, with responsibility for tackling serious and organised crime, counter terrorism and scientific services.
Between April 2007 and September 2007 he was seconded to British Telecom as part of BT Global Services Management Team to develop an identity services strategy.
In January 2008, he qualified from the Strategic Command Course.
Dave holds a first degree in Politics and Economics from the University of Liverpool and a Masters (with distinction) in Police Management from the University of Manchester.
